Neuromuscular Therapy Massage
Neuromuscular therapy aims to treat the underlying cause of pain/dysfunction – trigger points.
Trigger points are hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscles that can create local or referred symptoms such as pain and/or numbness/tingling. In addition, the presence of a trigger point can shorten and weaken a muscle leading to issues with posture, biomechanics, circulation and nerve compression.
Neuromuscular therapy addresses trigger points in order to reduce or eliminate symptoms and to help return a muscle to its normal length and strength. Education on perpetuating factors that may contribute to trigger point formation is also a big part of neuromuscular therapy.
